Bloody work minutes

I took my first meeting taking minutes last Friday and can’t put them right.
My grammar isn’t anything fantastic and I struggle to make them flow.
How do I continue to do this? The Manager has given me some minutes from a previous for reference, but it’s just confusing me even more!
how do I do this?

Is your job taking minutes or is it being shared amongst the team. If it's being shared amongst the team then perhaps ask your manager if she can suggest someone else on the team who's minutes they like to show you how?

What is the problem?

Are your notes gappy, so you don't have the material? Or are you just struggling to summarise?

Was the meeting recorded? Teams will do you a first draft...

use people’s initials - eg. XP commented that … NG asked….

use phrases like : “summary of discussion:” under agenda item headings then give bullets . If there was no agenda this will be harder but you could add artificial structure by theme. If it’s not a “formal” meeting you don’t need to capture everything and it doesn’t always need to be in chronological order as long as ideas captured.

keep detached “the group / the board discussed” “some questioned whether” “there was broad agreement that”

Helpful sections:
agreed actions
Outstanding questions
decisions made

I prefer to do mine as a table so each agenda item (one column) then has a summary of conversation in one column, agreed actions in another, and decisions in another (this last column is quite often blank!)

ask if your boss wants everything recorded or just actions / highlights

Is it an in person or virtual meeting? There's so much tech that can help you. MS Teams I believe will transcribe meetings then create an AI generated summary and actions for you. Or if you type your notes from an in person meeting can you ask ChatGPT to turn them into meeting minutes format?
