Went for an interview Yesterday only a part time job that will run alongside my other job . I feel like it went really well and we had a good conversation after about unrelated work stuff . I know its early days but the wait is killing me . I keep checking my phone , refreshing my emails and nothing ..
Is anyone else waiting to hear back about a job ? come join me .

I'm not now but I sympathise.

I've almost always been called straight back and been told either way.

A couple of years ago, lots of us were unexpectedly let go without notice from a University I'd been working at for many years and we weren't eligible for redundancy. I was distraught. The only saving grace was that there was another similar job at a local college with a closing date the following day so I spent all night working on the application. I was shortlisted attended the interview to discover it was a lonnnnnnngggg shortlist and there were 7 parts to the job interview with culls throughout the day. I got through the whole day, over 10 hours, starting at 7.30, and it was between me and one other candidate and I was told I'd be contacted very soon. My previous job rang me
when I was still in the car park!

They left it TEN days to tell me, quite nastily actually, that I was unsuccessful. It was hellish waiting all that time and not knowing if I was successful or not, how I was going to cope financially etc. Then they asked if I wanted feedback. That was emailed six weeks later!

It IS a hard wait, but hopefully it's not too long and it's good news for you! Do something nice to celebrate either way. You obviously made a good impression. Maybe they are just waiting on references and paperwork.

I'd say be on the end of your seat until Tuesday, then after that assume you haven't got it so you mentally move on. Otherwise if you don't get it you'll be more upset and put things on hold for it. If you do get it, then that's great!
Employers tend to keep top candidates on the "maybe" pile until someone signs a contract, so you need to mentally move on after a little while as it gets annoying.

I'm in same position, OP. Was made redundant at end of February but am being kept on 'gardening leave' as I am following up some internal roles.

Had two second stage interviews on Wednesday, one external role, one internal. I thought the external was my best chance but then that interview wasn't great - the internal one was actually very positive and could be a goer but it is a big pivot in career terms, so if the other candidate is in the same line of work they may be a safer choice. Nothing yet and I thought I'd be checking my email constantly but then I had a nice day doing fun things on Thursday and by the end of Thursday another job had asked me for interview next week so that helped me a bit as at least if I don't get either role from last week the trail of new jobs hasn't gone dead.

I think I'll hear about internal one in first few days of next week - it's a very busy team so it might take them a few days to find a time to make a decision.

Good luck OP!

I keep thinking no news is good news as if they didnt want me they would just say but then if they did want me they would say also . 🤷🏻‍♀️

Try not to overthink it - I suspect it's a no from external role as I just don't think I convinced and I'm not too bothered as it wasn't that exciting a job though obviously I'd take it if offered under the circumstances. The second one is harder to tell and, as I said, I know they make take a while to find the time to decide but I will chase up if I've not heard by midweek. It's the more exciting option of the two, but also a bit daunting as it'll be far more intense work than I have ever done in my career before, where I have been used to being able to work 9-5, have a lunch break and forget about work at after 5pm. I'm intrigued, but also a little scared!

I think companies need to be upfront about when they'll let candidates know. I waited over a week to be told somewhere wanted to offer me a job. By then I'd assumed I hadn't got it and had accepted something else. The first place was a bit put out. I also think not telling people at all is downright rude.

pavillion1 · 16/03/2024 18:11

I agree it is rude im kicking myself i didnt ask how long i had to wait . Ive also applied for two other roles since so im sure ill get something eventually.
