Union and redundancy

I've worked in a school as support staff for two years. We are facing a potential few redundancies.
Union have offered to join for meetings etc, are they actually valuable to have with you?

Yes. I’ve been involved in several redundancy consultations as a TU rep. Also, if you pay union subs why would you not use their services? You have nothing to lose by having them in.

Definitely use the union that’s what they’re there for!

They negotiated a much better outcome for us at work than was originally on the table!

Yes, when I was made redundant the union got a far better deal for everyone.

Thankyou. I'm struggling to cope and I'm very confused about what to do even though I really have no options other than to stay and pray for the best.
Im finding it hard to put one foot in front of the other

It’s very scary I’ve been through it twice- try not to worry (easier said than done I know) but it’s really out of your hands the second time round during covid I simply refused to give it any of my headspace as worrying just made things worse the first time round!

Speak to the Union this is literally their bread and butter!!

I think that because (for several reasons) there's a chance it's not actually having to happen for some of us im holding on to some hope.
Also, it may not even be me.
I'm a lone parent, non driver, small town. I don't know what I'll do

Please don’t go into any meetings without them! And try not to let management corner you for ‘an informal chat’ about it either.

Management have been very good and are being quite straight with us all I think.
It's so worrying
