Accused of misconduct

Hi all,

I’ve been on my job circa 9 months. If I’m honest it’s been a mistake from the start. Micromanagement from line manager, cold & unsupportive LT have made for a trying work atmosphere. To make matters worse I left a great work environment to come here and I was already beating myself up over this.

I’ve now been accused of “gross misconduct” by my line manager but don’t believe I’m guilty of the accusation. But basically it will just be my word against theirs, and obviously the company will support them.
Im actively looking to leave anyway but is there any way back for me in the company if I present my side of the story clearly and calmly? This will be difficult as my mental health has taken a real battering from these claims and I’m feeling incredibly despondent that this happening.
I’m deeply shocked and saddened it has come to this. Any advice?

What have you been accused of. You may not want to say if its outing

Are they going to sack you? If so you have very little protection as under 2 year (providing not a protected characteristic)

Are you part of a union?

Write down what you know now, take out any emotion - make sure your facts are straight

Polish your CV and get job hunting, its not going to get any better

Don’t want to go into specifics, but really just wanted to know if anyone had had similar experiences and what the outcome was. I do wonder if they’re gearing up to get rid of me.

Not part of any union. Absolutely devastated by it all and worried I’m going to crack up in the meeting which won’t look good.

A gross misconduct accusation should come
with a suspension until a disciplinary meeting. If they’re not suspending you, then they should have the disciplinary meeting soon as they can’t make an accusation like that and let you continue working with access to everything.
You’re usually allowed a union rep along with you.

Unless someone is in your company, with similar issues its going to be very difficult
