I'm an experienced primary school teacher. I love my job but the workload is affecting my young family so I need to look at other options. Has anyone made the move into other jobs?

Join the facebook group, Life After Teaching. It has about about 150k members so plenty of ideas on there.

I know a lot of teachers head to the Civil Service, mostly taking up jobs at EO or HEO level to begin with. This might mean a significant pay cut to begin with, but there are opportunities for promotion and the work-life balance is a lot better. Pension is very good too.

The DfE is over staffed and not recruiting (and likely to get worse when government changes)

I’m now in local authority work - lots go into SEN in LA but it’s bloody tough. You can wfh but the hours and stress are crazy. Could be a potential gateway to other LA jobs though?

I’ve met a few corporate trainers/L&D people who are former teachers, might be something to look into?

Working in the charity sector is another option. Plenty of children-related charities like the NSPCC, Barnardo's, The Children's Society etc.
