So I'm an EA, do contract work. Looking for perm work too. It seems to be insanely difficult to get anything right now, I'm 52 but skills all up to date.

Anyone else finding the same?

I'm a few years older than you, similar skill set.

I've just started a new job, public sector where they don't tend to discriminate. I took as many dates off my CV as I could and that's when I started getting interviews.

I meant to say, it definitely does get harder as you get older.

I've been doing contract work for government and a couple of private companies since and for about a year or so before covid.

Government are generally ok but the last role I applied for last summer which was PA/EA they had over 150 applicants which they said to me was a lot.

It don't think it's anything to do with age/skills but I think there are fewer jobs and/or more applicants now, than there were.

I've been looking to retrain too but time and other things (health issues) have got in the way recently.

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain What are you thinking of retraining as? I'm about to sign up to do book keeping qualification

That might be something I'll do. To be honest at first it was paralegal/HR but these will take a while.

I was looking to do legal bookkeeping as I worked as legal sec/PA for a few years. A good legal bookkeeper will never be out of work apparently.

My nana as it goes - for years (she had her own business too) did bookkeeping and did this for extra money and for something to do well into her retirement. It's a good skill to have.
