I've recently started a job. I was told I would be "required to be on call 1 weekend a month" I thought ok, that's fine. Expected it to be paid.

I'm only paid if I'm called? Meaning, I can't really go far from home as I need to always be watching my phone and be able to get to work within a reasonable amount of time, for possible no pay. If I am paid it's an amount that barely is above minimum wage.

Anyone had similar to this?? From what I gather it's not very moral but not illegal either. I wish I'd checked first I just assumed it would be paid at least a small amount whether we were called out or not.

The NHS does this.

For Physiotherapists I should say, I don't know if they pay other professionals for the whole time they are on call.

I was never paid - but I usually knew by 10am if I cd stand down for the day. Not great for planning but not the same as you're doing - and it was written into my contract. We all did it.

I get paid an insultingly low amount to be on call (NHS). Although I do at least get paid a higher than normal amount if I am called.

You get used to the uncertainty though, I try and just get on with my day as usual while staying within an area close enough to get to work on time if I'm called

I think the physiotherapists get paid £1 an hour on call, that is 16:30 - 8:30. They then get paid for time they are called out. I'm not sure how much that is but I imagine at least 1.4 of their usual hourly rate as that is what we get for working weekend day time hours.
