Is it too early for me to ask to wfh on one specific day?

I started a new job last week, it's one day in the office and the rest wfh, except while I learn the ropes. My manager says it really depends on how quickly I get comfortable with it. I think my first week went well and I'm picking it up pretty smoothly!
On Thursday I need to let someone into my house, I could ask the neighbours but would rather be there myself.
Can I ask my manager if I can try out wfh this Thursday or is it too early?

Personally I think it’s too early and if I were your manager I’d think it was cheeky until you’re fully signed off as being competent.

I'd assume it would be office working until you pass your probation. I think asking after a week would be too soon.

Fair enough, I shall say nothing to him!

I think it's too early and if I were your manager I'd be a bit worried you're the sort of person who jumps the gun.

Or who uses working from home to do other things. I know you're only letting someone in, but if your manager doesn't know you, they may think differently.

Ask if you can change one of your wfh days that week?

I read the OP as she's currently in the office full time and only after she's learnt the ropes will it be one office day with the rest WFH?

Yes that's what I was worried about projecting so glad I checked here. Fingers crossed it won't be long now 😅

I’d work from the office too. Not least becasue I wouldn’t want to give the impression I’d be supervising the builder (so not focusing on work).

Too early to ask for me. You’re in your probation period and what would you do if you couldn’t do it?

ManchesterLu · 03/03/2024 13:08

Definitely ask your neighbour if that's an option. :)
