Is this right? Rostered day off and resignation

So I've handed in my notice, I leave Thursday the 7th March. Every week I have a Wednesday off because I work the Saturday, my manager has messaged today and said since I'm leaving and won't be working the Saturday I have to work the Wednesday. Where does this stand? It's always been my rostered day off, so I've always made appointments/plans for that day. And now my manager is saying no I have to work it. Is this right?

Er that doesn't make sense to me (IANAL though)
I think you're right

Obviously if Saturday is within your working week then you would expect a short week on wages - they can't force you to work another day, but you may not get a full wage for the week.

It depends whether you’re owed the Wednesday from the previous Saturday or whether you get the Wednesday in anticipation of the sat coming up

Usually they would just pay you less.

If in effect you work the Saturday after the Wednesday off then yes you owe them the day either worked or not being paid for a day

Tell him to fuck off.

If he plays hardball, agree to come in, but then dont show up.

Fuck him, he cant make you come in and you dont have to adhere to what he says - you are leaving anyway!

I'm happy to not be paid for it I'm not expecting pay for a day off. I spoke to another manager about it, who said she didn't think it was right and said she hadn't heard of people having to work their day off due to resignation!

Doesn’t sound right to me. What difference does it make that you’ve resigned? If you’re contracted to work certain days then this doesn’t change

Moltenpink · 24/02/2024 17:46

No, they are totally wrong and very strange!

Did you start on a Monday so your working week is Monday to Saturday with Wednesday as your non-working day?

I think your manager has got it wrong as you will just be paid to the Thursday based on your working pattern.
