Leaving a job with immediate effect?

I can’t stand another day at my job, my mental health has taking such a nosedive due to it. I just cannot go back.

Can I email and say I have to leave with immediate effect due to health reasons? The notice period is a month. Or would I be best to try and get a sick note and hand that in at the same time as my notice?

I’m at a loss.. I don’t know what to do. All I do know is that I can face going back.

I'd get a sick note especially if you get paid sick leave. Then resign, and the period of sick leave can cover your notice.
Prospective employers cannot ask about health before they make an offer, and for an ex employer to disclose sick record on a reference, whilst theoretically possible, is vanishingly rare.

@IDontHateRainbows I just get standard SSP I believe. Would it be possible/legal to get a months sick note and use that sick period as my "notice period" I've never been in this position before so wasn't sure where I stood with it.

Yes a sick note can cover notice , I did the same in a similar position a few years ago

Sorry you are feeling low.

how long you been with the company? Some companies can hurt you in other ways lack of reference in future, take holiday pay to cover some or all of their loss if that’s written in a contract.

@mrsbyers that's good to know as I've been worrying that wasn't legally allowed. I'll ring my gp tomorrow and try to get a sick note to cover my notice period.

I've only been with them 6 months.. longest 6 months of my life!
