Which job do I go with?

Hello, first post so sorry if I ramble!

I am a working mum with two children, DS 3.5 and DD 2.

I am currently in a job working at an architects practice 4 days a week with 1 day working from home. I have been pushed into an admin / finance role which I dont enjoy and have recently lost my assistant. I am being micro managed which is really affecting my confidence and I have been looking at new roles as I often work overtime. My commute isn’t bad at just over an hour each way.

I have been offered a new job working for a supplier, working 10-5pm 2 days a week in the office and 2 days at home 9-3 which will allow me to collect my son from school. The only thing is the commute is around 2 hours to get to the office on the two days I go in - eek! The role is offering a very similar salary working in total for 2.75 days a week - spread over 4 days. The only thing is it’s a relatively new company and I feel I will have to be very firm with my hours and what I take on. The job description is not very glamorous, feels like a step back - more admin and dealing with orders but it’s offering more flexibility. I’m torn what to do as I have fear that I will make the wrong decision.

Grateful to hear of what you have done - if you stepped back a bit in your career for flexibility or had to adjust for home life balance.

Keep job 1.

The 2 hour one way commute will be hard going with young children. Plus you may need to leave work early to collect from childcare if they are ill. Only 1 day extra at home plus new more admin-based role plus similar pay does not seem worth it to me.

Keep looking!!!

Thank you. I just checked timings and the new commute could take 1 hour 39 mins one way if I time my connections…

Still keeping my options open - having a good think today what to do.
