Im supposed to start work next week...same company but 2 different branches. They are 30 minutes drive apart. Im supposed to be working every Friday for one branch and the other 3 days for the other branch. The branch where Im working 1 day a week (Branch K) has given me a starting date and the people there are good at keeping me updated. So thats sorted. However, the other branch (Branch A) which is closer to where I live has not been responding to any of my e-mails. Ive met the acting manager (Branch A doesn't have a permanent manager at the moment) after she told me to meet her for a one on one discussion about my hours for Branch A. I had my toddler with me because she insisted that we meet even though I told her that I wouldn't have anyone looking after my son whilst I have the discussion. She said that was fine and to bring him along anyway. When I met her at the designated time she had arranged, we only spoke for 5 minutes because she said she was 'limited on time'. I got there 10 minutes before the arranged time and she was not ready. I had to ask for her twice before she eventually came to see me. The 'discussion' wasn't even anything important and could have easily been communicated through e-mail/phone call! She told me she would get in touch in a couple of days but hasn't so Ive sent a polite email asking to please clarify my starting date because I need to get ready for my contract to start next week. If she doesn't get back to me in the next few days, should I just back out from all this even though I've already signed a contract to work for the actual company?
There's a factory right outside my front door offering to show me around the place in a couple of weeks. The pay is higher but doesn't give me much flexibility around childcare...but the hours are guaranteed and the guy on the phone was really keen on hiring someone local. There's overtime available and they pretty much have their shit sorted there from the sound of things. What do you think I should do?
