Internal job moves

I would like peoples opinions on an internal job move.

Just 3 months ago I moved departments internally due to lack of progression after waiting 18 months or so for a promotion opportunity but no vacancies were available.
Now the job I wanted (promotion) has become available and is being advertised in the old department.
Is it too soon to try and move back to the job I wanted all along?

I am in the UK and work for a big employer.

No. Go for it. Someone once told me that no one will ever be more interested in your career development than you. No one is going to make this opportunity happen for you again or make you happy while you watch someone else get it.

Just go for it.
