Manager who won’t give work

I have a manager who is both a perfectionist and also very keen to charge a high number of hours. The more she charges the more she earns.

I am supposed to be being by her. She never gives me actual work of substance. It’s always just grunt work like print this or google that. She keeps anything interesting for herself and as such I feel I’m not being trained.

Not only that, but sitting around doing boring and dull as dishwater tasks when others in the team get to meet clients or discuss strategy is so demotivating!

Supposed to be trained*

I think she doesn’t give me work because she wants the easy hours and also anything I do isn’t exactly how she would do it, so it isn’t good enough.

Do you have a job description which requires you to do these tasks? If so you could point out that you need to be capable of doing them.

Additionally, do you a Performance Plan? Or Development Plan? You could ask for these tasks to be added to it. A refusal could be seen as a form of bullying.
