Paternity leave question

If my partner works for a company which gives enhanced paternity leave and I am claiming maternity allowance as a self employed person, do I need to notify DWP that he will be taking 2 months off? It's not a case of sharing my leave I don't think as he gets this anyway as part of his benefits package with the company. In Scotland if that makes a difference...

Why would they need to know if its unconnected with your leave and pay?

Lola2PC · 01/02/2024 22:21

That's what I'm trying to figure out.

If it's definitely just enhanced paternity leave and nothing to do with shared parental leave, then no, you don't need to tell anyone anything.

No, if it’s a contractual enhanced paternity leave package you don’t need to do anything, as his enhancement is a work benefit and doesn’t impact your own leave.

If his is a stand alone paternity leave policy that doesn't require you to give up any of your leave and pay for him to be able to take it then you dont need to inform them.

You couldnalways phone and ask them rather than asking on here

I have asked over the phone to DWP and didn't receive a clear answer so thought I would try here as another option. I thought it would be acceptable to ask questions like this as other people may have similar experiences they could draw upon to help me. Please don't feel the need to answer me if you don't have any suggestions.

@Lola2PC I already did answer you!

Thanks to everyone for the replies. It's been difficult to get a clear answer from DWP and husband's work haven't responded to multiple requests for clarification so felt like I was at an impasse trying to figure this out with baby coming any day now.
