Director role - through to 2nd interviews. Can you help?

Hello everyone, I interviewed for a Director role recently and have moved through to 2nd interviews. Well, I'm meeting different teams on two different days and then back with the CEO for an informal presentation and meeting.
It's a charity role and really interesting, I'd love to get it. I met the first team today and it went ok although I may have asked too many questions!

I'm meeting the Board tomorrow and would be grateful for any advice on what I could ask. I'm not new to all this as am a director in my current role and report to the board (but in this new role I would report to the CEO).
I think I'm nervous because I really want it and also I'm extremely hormonal!

TIA

Good luck. No advice other than be yourself and remember you are sizing them up as much as they are sizing you up. I always think that at this level it is by far more of a two way conversation as well. By this stage it is more about fit than experience, particularly if you got through to second round.

I have noticed though that the charity sector do have an awful lot more hoops to jump through!

Thanks, it does feel like an awful lot of hoops :)

IME, boards vary dramatically in the charity sector in their engagement/expertise...have you been able to look up their profiles online ahead of the interview? It'd be good to have an idea of who you're dealing with.

I'd expect them to be asking you, one way or another, something along the lines of:

  • what do you see as the likely future icebergs in our sector over the medium to long term?
  • what do you see your impact being after your first 100 days in post?
  • how do you expect to give them assurance over whatever aspects you'll be overseeing, e.g. if you're going to be Director of Marketing, how will you give assurance to the Board that milestones are being met for that area etc.
  • something about the strategic plan and how you see your role in it.

Very best of luck!

Thanks, @HillyHoney, all really good points. I feel this role will initially require a lot of change management (which doesn't faze me) so I've been trying to get my thoughts around that as well.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

I've had a number of interviews for this role- final one was Weds evening. They've emailed me today to ask for a Teams meeting with the CEO - am I wrong to be a bit confused? would they do that to just tell me I haven't got the job?
I don't want to get ahead of myself!

I'd be very surprised if they did that just to tell you you hadn't been successful! More likely that you've done well at interview and the CEO wants to have 30 mins with you before they make a final decision. Or possibly they don't hink you're quite the right fit but want to keep you warm for something else coming up?

I'd imagine CEO is the decision maker and will meet with you and decide and offer. Or they are meeting with another final candidate too and will choose their preference

I wouldn't consider it a done deal at this stage.
Well done for getting so far in process. Fingers crossed for you
