Hi ladies
7 months ago I started a public service/local authority/civil service and it is a disaster.
My boss, Rachel, is 2 grades above me and working in the organisation 5 years. She is excellent at everything she does. She blames her boss Paul for everything. He works non-stop. He has poor English and sends out correspondences with incomplete sentences and full of errors. Paul takes credit for my boss' work. Being in the public sector, he rewrites her work with his poor English and claims it was her work. He gives her a day's work at 4pm. Paul wont let her take her flexi.
My colleague and I have both formed the opinion that nothing will ever be good enough for our boss. She micromanages both of us and wants full control. She doesn't want to take orders from Paul.
My boss, Rachel, has complained repeatedly to me and my colleague about her boss Paul. She will not do anything about it.
My boss is under so much pressure that she has no time to train me. Her attitude is go figure out the task she gives me myself and don't ask colleague for help. In my first review, she said she saw me failing probationary period. She wasn't happy with me. She expected me to leave anyway. She was full of negativity towards me.
From week one she allowed me to work from home because she only comes into the office 1 day a week.
On 9th December the who organisational was required to submit their signed of WFH forms for the next year. It was subject to satisfactory performance. She signed mine. It doesn't suit her to come into the office.
I felt that as i had done 6 months, based on her completing the form that I would receive a positive 6 months review
5 weeks later, she did my review and it wasn't positive. In the weeks leading up to it, she was shouting at me on Teams calls and told me that she wasn't happy with my performance.( I getting the backlash from her in the form of threats, cursing because she is unhappy. She has made it clear that she is stuck with Paul and job hunting outside of the organisation.) my review was full of -" I keep finding mistakes in your work" . I usually do letters and always leave notes/comments if im unclear of anything. I didn't argue with her.
I told her I would my comments seriously and that I appreciate the feedback.
I also told her that I contacted the Union.
I told her that I told the union that she has loads of problems with her boss/job. She went on to say she had no problems with work.
I told her that she her shouting was unacceptable towards me on Teams. She said that she didn't know what i waz talking about and that i could be passed aggressive myself.
My work was satisfactory on 14th December but on 25th January not good enough.
While dignity at work is a huge issue, my main concern is passing probationary(which is 1 year).
Work is very ad-hoc and very little repetition to proof myself. She is unapproachable - if I need to clarify a point when she gives me a task to do(and she wants me to go figure it out for myself) .
She does not want HR involved from what I gather.
I am documenting every task including my accuracy/error. In recent days she has given me tasks to do and encourages me to ask questions.
There is very little the union can do.
What do I do?
