Feel confused at this job is this normal

I’ve worked at this job for about 8 months. When I was hired I’ve had zero training as the person who was meant to train me quit. I’ve brought it up to my manager and he says just ask with questions. I feel like I’m always sent things to solve at work and it feels like people expect me to understand but more than half the time I’m very confused due to lack of proper onboarding and training.

What's the job?

Are you asking questions about the things you don't understand?

It's great to start a role, get full training over a few months - but it isn't always possible.
Learning as you go, by asking questions is also a legitimate training tool - as long as you are not penialised for not knowing something which you haven't been trained to do.

I haven’t had any specific job training since the first few years of my career. As your manager has suggested, I learn by asking question and meeting people. Whether that is appropriate in your case, does of course depend on what the job is and what level you came in at.
