Civil service- Pre-employment checks

WorkCleanRepeat · 23/01/2024 17:04

I've received a provisional offer for a job in the civil service (I'm currently private sector)

Today I have received a DBS certificate through the post. I assume this was ordered as part of their checks.

Will I need to send them a copy of this? Or will they have received one too?

The recruitment process has been 100% digital so far so I don't have a contact to ask.

They will have received it.

WorkCleanRepeat · 23/01/2024 17:59

Thank you 😀

No problem. I’ve just gone through the checks. Good luck in your new job.

WorkCleanRepeat · 23/01/2024 18:28

Thank you. I'm very excited about getting a start date. I've been in my current job quite a long time.

Good luck in your new role 😀

Thank you! My start date is soon now: I’m so excited!

GoBackToPartyCity · 23/01/2024 20:32

How long did your checks take? I’ve been waiting since the beginning of December for SC clearance. The wait is killing me! 😂

Norma27 · 23/01/2024 20:37

The whole lot took 3 months exactly for me

WorkCleanRepeat · 24/01/2024 07:41

Gosh I might still be in for a wait then. They only started my PECS a week ago. I did interview at the beginning on November though.

I know my DBS is back and 2 of my references were sent back same day so I'm hoping they don't take too long. I feel like I'm spending my days watching out for emails. It's painful.

My emails have said that it takes 8 weeks on average, but can take up to 16. I’m at the 8 week mark this week and the constant refreshing of my inbox is driving me crazy!

Norma27 · 24/01/2024 12:35

It drove me crazy too. My interview was mid August, provisional offer mid sept, formal offer mid December and I start mid February.

DarkRipePlum · 25/01/2024 22:36

Mine took just over two months. Long time but hopefully worth it! Congrats on the job!

WorkCleanRepeat · 12/02/2024 13:44

I'm still waiting, not so patiently...

The job advert said full time, part time, part year etc

Ideally I'd prefer a term time contract. Should I ask for this from the off? or is it better to pass probation and then request a change of hours?

GoBackToPartyCity · 12/02/2024 13:49

I’m still waiting too…9 weeks and counting since my vetting was submitted!

WorkCleanRepeat · 12/02/2024 16:54

They must have felt my inpatience. I got a call from the recruitment team this afternoon offering a start date whilst my PECS are still being processed.

Possibly a little risky but I'm pretty sure I don't have anything lurking in the background I could fail on.

Ahh brilliant. Congratulations!

Hopefully I won’t be too far behind you!

Civiservant24 · 24/02/2024 12:42

Hi folks can i jump on this. Been a civi servant nearly 20 years and received a provi offer for another civi servant dept. Sent off my DBS info digitally.
I have had a lot of absence (hospital admissions and operations plus covid when you had to isolate) and am worried this will affect my offer.
Ive had an offer recinded before from the HO due to this. But when i applied for this role it did not ask at any point about live absence warnings. All i have been asked for since accepting this offer is the DBS which i already have in my current role.

artpkvea · 25/02/2024 10:04

@Civiservant24 is it a central department? There is a usually a departmental records check for transfers and that's where it'll be seen.

I am currently going through my background checks. My account is now showing:

We are reviewing the outcomes of your pre-employment checks.
We will contact you as soon as a decision has been made. Please do not resign from your current position at this time.

Anybody else had this, and if so what where the next steps, this whole process feels like its taking forever, and l can't help but worry something is going to go wrong.

GoBackToPartyCity · 19/08/2024 18:48

It takes forever! I think I was in that position for 16 weeks altogether.

ArmyMedic2024 · 20/08/2024 21:55

Congratulations! It shouldn't be long now.

You've done better than me. I handed my resignation in before my checks completed 🤣
