Asking for advice re deciding to work for myself.
Could I please have people’s experiences of leaving a paid, salaried job to work for yourself. I currently work in an office 3 days a week and work 1 day a week on my own baking business. I am not really that happy in the office job, it has turned from an easy admin job (which is what I wanted) to financial planning and bookkeeping which I am really not qualified for or interested in. I don’t think it would go down very well to ask for less responsibility so I think if I stay, the role will continue as is.
I love my one day a week baking and have an opportunity to extend it full time with more-or less guaranteed income (at least at first) It would also mean that I can cover all of our school drop offs, pick ups and activities which at present we are constantly scrabbling around to manage.
Does anyone have any similar experience that they are willing to share and how it turned out? Am I crazy to give up a salaried job with benefits and holiday/sick pay. My husband has a good job but most of his salary is based on bonuses so not always guaranteed income.
