Work load too high for part time hours

I’ve just returned from mat leave three months ago and now realised the tasks just kept on building and now I feel like I don’t have enough time to do everything in 24 hours. To make matters worse I got ill with the flu last week and was literally bed ridden all week and had to call in sick two days in a row as I couldn’t get out of bed and had a fever of 40 degrees. To make matters worse my daughter is ill now and if she gets called back from nursery I’ll have to pick her up. What should I do? I plan to speak to my manager but will I get fired if they don’t reduce my work load? I feel it would be unfair to have to do extra hours im not getting paid for.

Can you do a breakdown of tasks and the time they take so that you can demonstrate to your manager why you can't get through all of the work in your hours?

You say you've returned from maternity leave. Are you doing the same job and same hours as previously, or has the job role or hours changed? Your manager may not realise that the tasks won't fit into the hours you now do.

Have you any suggestions to either streamline something that is currently part of your role or for an aspect to be given to another staff member? Go to your manager with suggestions on how the work can be completed.

As PP, you need to do a time and motion exercise on yourself, write down everything you do in a week and the time it takes.
Arrange a meeting with your manager, suggest any stream lining you can see, and ask to offload a % of work so your tasks can be completed in your allocated hours.

I think your workload and your recent sickness absence are separate.

What kind of work do you do? How part time are you? What discussions were had about workload when you reduced your hours?
