Working from home with no broadband, what are my options?

I currently work from home 2 days a week, all good. Over the summer I will be staying with my parents whilst continuing to work, but the problem is they have no Internet access.I could go into the office but I would be the only one there.
I'm useless with technology. I've asked them if I can pay for them to have broadband but they have refused. Is there anything that I can buy to use to link my laptop to so that I could work from anywhere?
I think i can possibly link it to my phone but I only have 25gb per month data so not sure how long that would last

You can pay for extra data on your phone but I’m not sure how much it will cost. You could also go find a nice coffee shop and work in there for the day while treating yourself to a nice drink or 2.

How much would it be to increase the GB on your phone for the week? I use about 2GB when working from home if that helps.

You can buy a dongle but I’d be more inclined to decamp to a coworking space if there’s one around.

It'll be cheaper to get a monthly phone SIM with a higher level of broadband bandwith for a couple of months. I don't think you'll be able to get a landline broadband installed at your parent's home for just 2months - most will be on 12/18/24 month contracts.

Who are you with at your own home for landline broadband? Some providers give you access to "hotspots", i.e. piggyback onto other broadband connections (local businesses, neighbours, etc) via wifi. I believe Virgin and BT do this, and pretty sure other big firms will do it too. Probably the starting point to find out if yours does it as then it would be free!

I believe there are also some firms who do temporary "dongle" hire where you hire a box for a short term which connects to hotspots or the mobile network.

I work full time 3 days in the office which I will still do, and 2 days at home. I will be house sitting for them, so they won't be there. I would much prefer to be able to work from their home if possible.
We also have a caravan that we spend alot of time at over the summer and I would also like to be able to work from there but same situation again there is no WiFi

If you can download files, work on them locally, then upload back rather than work directly in the cloud, that will save data allowance.

I hotspot from my phone if our broadband is out for a few days. It doesn't seem to use that much data - I never go anywhere near my data limit anyway.

As others have said you can also buy mobile hotspots from phone providers. I looked into this when our broadband was down but didn't bother in the end as hosting on my phone was fine.

Do you have a work phone? Move has unlimited data so I just hotspot from that of I'm somewhere where the WiFi isn't good

Mobile wifi hotspot? Vodaphone EE etc offer them with sims.

Hang on, so you're house sitting for them, presumably you are doing them a favour? And they won't let you arrange to have broadband there temporarily? I'd just say no to coming.

If it's not a "one off", then just upgrade or change to a better mobile contract that gives a higher amount of bandwidth for mobile broadband.

Our son has a month-by-month unlimited broadband SIM for just £17 per month.

My OH's contact is for 60gb usage per month for a tenner and he never uses anywhere near that amount - the website tracker shows his monthly usage is more like 10gb but he can't be bothered to downgrade for a smaller plan as it's only a tenner anyway.

My contact costs £6 per month and gives me 6gb of data per month - it sounds very little, but it more than covers a quick bit of googling when out and about, along with texts, a bit of Facebook on the bus/train whilst commuting, etc.

Personally I'd shop about for a higher data mobile contract - get a price. Then go back to your provider and ask if they can upgrade you to similar data for similar price. Which may well be the price you are already paying.

Google smarty .. they have a mini WiFi router thing I use for camping £20 per month cancel or freeze at anytime. Means we always have WiFi. No one runs out of data and this little thing gets charged overnight and lasts all day. Get the sim and the mini zte from Amazon.

You can get something from Three that you can take anywhere. It's a router that works on mobile broadband (like a dongle from yesteryear but more effective and much cheaper). Ours is about £10 a month, I don't think it's on a contract either but not sure. I WFH with it (it's our only internet).
