Culture in the Home Office

I was made redundant last year and have been offered a job, which has come as a bit of a relief to get an income. It's in the civil service

I'm a bit worried about the culture as it's office based and previously I WFH. I don't find working with others especially easy office politics wise. I think I'm probably at the top end of the age range as well (can't afford to retire for another few years).

Does anyone have any experience.

Your boss will be James "not-so" Cleverly. Well, for the time being anyway, who knows who it will be by the end of the week? You'll have 10 months of insanity and deckchair rearranging and then hopefully it will settle down after the election.

It's been a while since I worked at the Home Office, but I can't imagine it's changed very much!

Assuming you're going to be a civil servant rather than on the ministerial team, it will be like any other civilised office job! Busy office, lots of rules/protocol that might seem weird at first, but you soon absorb it all.

I liked it there!

Which part, operational (border force etc) or policy? They're quite different.

Home Office culture doesn't have a great reputation round the civil service tbh, it's on my "avoid" list.

Operational. It's a difficult question to answer I know. Hopefully I can pick up the role quickly enough and just keep my head down!

What sort of a reputation does it have???
