Hi, today I have an interview for a Personal Assistant to care for a person with autism.

The interview is with the person’s Mum at her home, who I spoke to briefly yesterday, and I’ll also be meeting the person who I’ll be looking after.

What questions are good to ask? Will this be more of an informal interview being at the home of the person and her Mum?

Also, any other advice from PAs in a caring role would be very much appreciated 💐💐

Ask if the person prefers to be referred to as "a person with autism" or as "an autistic person".

I'm autistic and a lot of us hate being referred to as someone with autism.

What will the role entail? What duties are you expected to do?

Will there be any personal stuff need doing? Eg. Dressing, washing, ?

I am sorry, I didn’t realise the way I put it that that could be offensive. Thank you, I have added it to my questions.

Her Mum explained on the phone that it was getting her up and feeding her, and personal care, yes.

Expectations of the role
What does a good week look like?
What does a bad week look like?

Good question, thank you.

Do you have any caring experience? If it's this level of care, I'd want someone with actual caring experience.

Having said that, if it's about this kind of stuff, I'd be asking what preferences her DD has - in terms of type of food, when and where to eat etc? Ditto re helping her dress - things to look out for or keep in mind etc.

Thank you for replying, no I don’t have any caring experience. I will discuss this at the interview.
