Hi all,
So on the drive home (5pm today) my airbag warning light started blinking and won't go away. Clearly a problem with the SRS system- effectively my manual states the airbags etc won't be deployed in the event of a crash with that light on and blinking- great!

Of course I am working full time at the moment as I am on a teaching placement so am expected to be doing the nursery runs and commute every day totalling over an hour and a half of travel each day!

I am not sure when I am going to be able to get into a garage... but feel very uncomfortable transporting myself and my 21 month old for a week in a car with no active airbags.

Any advice? Unsure on whether it is a significant enough problem (as my car is still running fine) to head to a garage asap tomorrow and let work down to get it sorted and out the way (my gut instinct!) or whether to hold off until the weekend...

Please no nasty comments either, I am very cautious over my childs car safety !

Can you get a mobile mechanic out - they will travel to where you are

I can definitely look into that! Thank you

I don’t think airbags would affect a 21 month old as they are (presumably) sitting in the back, but you still need to protect yourself. A mobile mechanic is a good idea.

I've turned mine off on my passenger side as one of my dogs sits there. He goes in the back if we are in my husbands car.

I thought you were meant to turn them off for dogs and children? 🤷🏼‍♀️

See if the mobile mechanic can meet up with you at your work, then you wont have the evening extra charge fee

Just take it to the garage and go into work late?

I thought airbags were to be avoided with young kids?

You can have side airbags I'm sure which don't interfere with the children's seats, the ROSPA advice that these type should offer added protection. Children in the front with airbags rearward and forward facing is a no-no.

She is rearward in the back, we have side airbags. But yes also want to protect myself!

Go to the garage tomorrow. You child needs you to be safe, (potential) no airbag is a very serious fault.
