Paid advocate jobs

Has anyone any experience of working as a paid advocate and what is it like? Pros and cons?

Saw a few adverts online recently, I come from a health care background but not planning to go back to the NHS to work. Looking to do a side step into a more admin post but with helping others with the transferable skills I already have.

Thanks

I worked as a children’s rights advocate for Barnardos. I loved the job, happy to answer any questions!

Is it a job that can be worked part time? All posts I see it's 37 hrs / week they are looking for which I couldn't do at the moment.

@Scutterbug thanks for responding to the thread. I appreciate it 😊 really looking into work that is mainly admin but involves helping others too. Just wondering how flexible the job is. It doe mention in one of the ads that it's a hybrid post.

I can see this is a historic thread but thought I’d reply in case it helps anyone else. I left the NHS working as a medical ward staff nurse and after a short career break, got a job working as a paid independent advocate. I took a pay drop but it was the best decision I ever made. I love my job, get to work with a broad spectrum of clients, still get to work in the hospital sometimes, the job is varied and interesting and I get so much job satisfaction from it. I felt like I was in a constant spinning hamster ball in the NHS. I also felt unprotected and unsafe. I work as an advocate with a focus on IMCA work and work part-time, admin from home with visits to clients in between. It is hugely flexible with hours and how you manage your own time. I’m in a better place.
