Are there still good fully remote options out there? Financial Services

I'm currently thinking about a few life things - including relocating, and it'd be really helpful to get some views. I noticed lots of other threads that say things like "we WFH so can live anywhere", so hoping you're on here!

Previous set up:

  • 5+ years before pandemic, worked in a large multi site business where I didn't see the team I worked with all that often
  • was a high performer, successful at building relationships and delivering quality work
  • lots of structure changes made me want to try something new
  • company is still very remote first

Current set up:

  • been at company 18 months
  • the teams I work with most are in Leeds and London, I'm based in Glasgow and we do have an office here but I don't need to it on the basis I travel once per month to see colleagues F2F
  • the travel is okay but it usually takes 3+ days of my work month - not sure it's always worth it
  • I've realised that I feel much more productive working remotely (this doesn't necessarily mean stuck in my house though) and those constraints around office locations are unnecessary restrictions on my relocation plans.

I will probably start looking around for a new role in Spring. I do product development or marketing type work and have a decent CV.

So, if you have a fully remote job that allows you to live anywhere, would you be able to share the industry, type of role and how you got it? Any advice much appreciated!

I might be expecting too much and will need to go back to the relocation drawing board.

Do you want to be able to live "anywhere" or just not have to travel out of Glasgow? If you could do a couple of days a week in Glasgow would that work just as well?

I worked fully remote which meant I could relocate to Cornwall.
The company I worked for merged with a larger company but still allowed fully remote. It used to be office based and I lived locally but they then went fully remote (if you wanted) and I loved it.
I don't work there anymore (off with 2 young kids) but I look at their vacancies occasionally and there are still lots of options for fully remote. They have offices all over the U.K. and the US for hybrid roles aswell.

The company has a mixture of jobs from marketing, sales, finance, IT, HR.

I worked within IT installing MIS for private schools. They've now branched out to state schools.
But the company actually do a wide range of businesses as they buy companies.
The smaller original company I worked for were great but the company that merged with them was also brilliant. Great benefits which our company couldn't provide (one of the reasons they merged).

I keep seeing a number of remote jobs on LinkedIn. Roles in big organisations like Redde Northgate seem to be remote first but regular travel (monthly) for team meetings. I work in Financial Services and have found the most FS organisations are putting more focus on being in the office and consciously moving away from remote working.
