Ever feel "sleepy" at work?

For me this happens at around 2pm/3pm where I feel that I'd love to take an afternoon nap. Honestly find it hard to focus and stay on track.

What I do is that I go to the washroom and splash water on myself.

Post lunch slump. Eat less carbs at lunchtime, you will be cured like magic. Big protein filled salad not sandwich and crisps etc.

FloweryWowery · 27/12/2023 22:04

All the time. When i used to work in an overheated municipal building i learnt to nap sitting up.

I work nights, I feel tired about 3am. I go outside to wake myself up.

justalittlesnoel · 27/12/2023 22:07

I get a giant Diet Coke and try to perk myself up!

Glad it's just not me

Often because I stay up late for no reason. I did manage to fall asleep at my desk one time in the office. Fortunately my cheek was resting on my fist so when my head slipped off I woke up. I think it could only have been a couple of minutes at most though. This was back when I worked in the public sector many moons ago so I doubt many shits would have been given for a couple of minutes.

Me too and it's not carb related, I don't eat breakfast and always have a salad and protein/fat lunch. What makes a big difference is getting out for a brisk 10-15 min walk as soon as I have eaten, that really helps.

I have a slump at about 4pm. It's nothing to do with food. I'm a teacher and I'm in 'performance' mode until 3:30, then I'm tired and find it hard to concentrate on settling down to work. I'm there until 5:30. Maybe a brisk walk straight after lessons end might help!

Omg I had this yesterday at work and it was really bad. I work 12 hour shifts and I felt like this at around 2-5. I've tried less carbs, splashing water, going outside, big fizzy drink.. you name it nothing works.

To make it worse (I work on a hospital ward), the night staff had cranked up all the radiators to the highest level, and it was honestly like a sauna when we came on shift. We had to turn all radiators off and open windows, the patients were relieved they could breathe!!

I have an office job if that wasn't clear.

Try taking a magnesium supplement in the morning. I don't get anywhere near the same slump as I used to, since I started taking them.

And? It's irrelevant really what job you do, you can feel sleepy and sluggish in any job.

I'm just clarifying my initial post to say that I (this post is about me) get tired in my office job.

And there are times at my desk I feel like dozing off.

I had this and went to my gp - I have very low ferritin, it was down to 6. I now take iron and feel normal levels of tiredness.

bctf123 · 28/12/2023 17:03

I have Flexi time so I would curl up and have a nap for 30 mins

Lastexmouse · 28/12/2023 19:40

Yes, around 2pm. Hence coffee was invented.

At 3:30pm I get to leave! I didn’t have babies so worked full-time 16 to nearly 42 before before getting ‘reduced’ hours. God save me. I will miss the 9 to 3.30 I’m sure.

Oh that's a shame, I always feel really bad for people who dont have children.

I get this too. When I WFH, it takes all my effort to not fall asleep on the sofa. This week has been especially hard.

purplecorkheart · 29/12/2023 10:47

I had this and found that upping my water in take during the morning and lunch time really helped.
