So I went for an interview for a part time role.. Turned up for the interview and all 5 of us were there at the same time, the trustee was wailing that it was soo hard and difficult and he found it awful etc etc. Ut was a small gallery with funding and I did feel having worked at another start up that it seemed a bit of a shambles. AnywY had an email tonight ( just to say I’m old menopausal and am mentally quite frail atm) to say that I hadn’t got the job because they had given it to “someone outstanding”😡So I did something a former meek mouse would never do and emailed back saying”Thanks for letting me know but saying you lost out to someone outstanding was not a very kind way to word it “.They replied saying they had got the template online because it had been sooo difficult to word-poor little lambs 😀 Feel better and I’m gonna start calling everyone out in future. Try treating people with respect and how you’d like to be treated. Rant over back to the Gin

I would consider that you had a lucky escape, if the trustees couldn’t even word a simple response to the interviewees!

PalePurplePumpkin · 17/12/2023 20:05

I don't see what's wrong with that wording really.

In this particular case, for this particular role, this person was outstanding so they got the job.

That's no reflection on you or the other candidates 🤷‍♂️

Zimunya · 17/12/2023 20:08

Well done, OP! I agree with @AlohaRose - they would have been a nightmare to work for if they can’t even handle interviews and hiring without an internet template!

Sparklfairy · 17/12/2023 20:08

Their reply about the template made me laugh. Even if you struggle at work with difficult conversations, it's so unprofessional to admit it to a candidate who hasn't even got the job! Grin

Thank you. I was really impulsive tonight and my dh thought I overreacted. But glad to know I’m not a menopausal freak🤣

I don’t think there was anything wrong with the original email about the role going to an outstanding candidate, I would have taken that to be the pm trying to soften the blow if anything. The response about it being a template was pretty pathetic though.

Ha, like it!

I remember looking for a first job after leaving school and would have then snail mailed my CV to this estate agents and on the unsuccessful letter they remarked the one that was hired was 'first to apply'!

Well done OP

THAT is outstanding!!!
