Works do - Embarrassed about asking if anyone has weed

pinkfunk · 17/12/2023 10:26

I'm hanging my head in shame. I'm not even a senior member of staff but I'm now panicking about going back after Xmas and getting my p45.
I don't even like weed but I was very drunk and it was at the end of the night so I'm hoping no one remembers... arghhh I can't shake off the embarrassment, what was I thinking!?

I thought you were asking if someone had wet themselves 😂

theduchessofspork · 17/12/2023 10:28

Just laugh it off if anyone mentions it

It definitely wouldn’t make the works do hall of fame so don’t worry about it

MyDogCafe · 17/12/2023 10:32

A wise person once told me to only have 2 drinks at any work do. The time for getting really pissed is with your friends, not work colleagues. Boring but worthwhile sticking to. No good to you now OP, but remember for next year. 😉

Just try your laugh it off.

Perhaps OP could say that's what she meant!

seagull82 · 17/12/2023 10:38

Don't worry about it, I went to my husband's very posh work party last week and in front of everyone another employee told the CEO how good the Coke he had just taken is and offered him a line. He also called his manager (my DH) a pussy hole.
He phoned in sick for the entire of last week 😂

pinkfunk · 17/12/2023 10:41

@seagull82 ahhh that makes me feel better :-)

I think I'm so worried because I am actually quite a timid member of staff, I work in admin/finance and I'm friendly and chatty at work but people would never have me down as someone to smoke a spliff.
I haven't done it for probably about 10 years but I was up for a good time and now I feel ridiculous. I left at 11pm so I'm hoping more antics occurred after I let so I don't look like such an idiot!

After to complete carnage at my Christmas do on Friday I wouldn’t worry about it.

I got home at 6am.

pinkfunk · 17/12/2023 10:46

@WingBingo - sounds like great fun 😜

I always talk myself out of these hangover anxieties by telling myself nobody actually cares that much about my life or is that invested in me to spend days after a night out thinking about what I did! Yes one or two people may think today ‘can’t believe Pinkfunk was after some weed’ but it’ll cross their mind once and then never again. You didn’t hurt anybody, you didn’t upset anybody and you had a good time. Success if you ask me OP!

TheChosenTwo · 17/12/2023 10:49

Oh god!!
I just stay for a couple at my official work party and then a few of us who have become friends make our excuses and leave for somewhere else!
Happy to see everyone and be sociable for a bit but our boss is a dick and I don’t want to spend that much time in his presence, might say something I regret 😂

bananablues · 17/12/2023 10:55

Our rule of thumb is don’t hit or persistently molest anyone (like last year when one chap could not keep his hands off someone from HR that did not end well for him). Most Xmas nights out are complete carnage 😃

I think you will get anyway with it - laugh it off and you will be fine.

I can beat that. Last week, an servant said to my husband, 'Your Majesty, that was a brilliant toot, and your wife is quite a goer'. How we tittered. He's in the Tower now.

Oh lol how funny are the middle classes who think drugs are simply great fun and aren’t at all affected by the utter fucking misery of the drugs trade.

aren’t you all so terribly terribly clever and funny !

tinselbra · 17/12/2023 11:10

I wouldn't worry at all!

I work in a school, I made the mistake of mixing my drinks. I gave a man a big hug and kissed him on the cheek and said, you're an amazing teacher, the kids love you and all the mothers too, you're a TILF! He said I don't work at your school.... apparently he was an undercover police officer on a drugs raid WineXmas Blush

And every item of clothing you own is 100% ethical yes?

Everything you do is ethical yes?

Get a grip.

googledidnthelp · 17/12/2023 11:11

Yeah just laugh it off any say it was your missing youth trying to make an appearance obviously

determinedtomakethiswork · 17/12/2023 11:33

How did you say it? Could you say you thought you'd smelt it?

DenyDenyLieTillYouDie · 17/12/2023 11:43

My username is also my approach after work Christmas nights out. Ours was Friday and was also absolute carnage. It wouldn't be Christmas without a full weekend of shame and beer fear. Every year I say that's my last one, next year I'm swerving it. I never manage.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 17/12/2023 11:51

If I go to a works do (probably only go every 3-4 years when I run out of excuses) I only have a couple of drinks and then go home. These people are not your friends, they are not people to get pissed with. Anything you say and do can be brought up to haunt you or sack you at anytime. I go out with actual friends and get pissed and have a laugh. Work is work and how I earn money. Play is play and my time where I spend it with good people who won't sack me for having a laugh.

I have got worse since I was made redundant and haven't been to any parties since as it gave me complete clarity that a business will get rid of you for any reason they want and not give a fuck.

Too late for this year, but maybe in future years swerve the parties if you can't handle more than a couple of drinks.

Obviously I can't be 100% sure, but I'm pretty convinced that if production of M&S clothes involved murder, extortion, drug and people trafficking, prostitution and modern slavery, we'd have heard about it.

And saying 'well, not everything you buy is 100% ethical, so there, ner ner!' is the most feeble response imaginable to someone pointing out what the drugs trade involves for millions of people. Amazing what some people will excuse.

Ok, now that’s the first properly problematic Xmas party incident I’ve read on here this season 😂.

Gettingbysomehow · 17/12/2023 12:14

Not wanting to be a killjoy or anything but managers watch employees at these do's and it does affect promotions. Who wants an employee who can't control their drinking and behaviour at work events.

ticktickticktickBOOM · 17/12/2023 12:18

All classes enjoy drugs and all classes are harmed by them and the trade. Drugs are indiscriminate like that.

Fun though. I mean just say no. whoops

MrsSparkington · 25/12/2023 01:11

Our work nights out are carnage. I work with mostly men, and a few of them always get very drunk. I think we all enjoy laughing at them (for months afterwards)
