Was hoping to get some advice from anyone is HR/line manager
I have a colleague who persistently tells me all about his personal problems ( multiple and some very stressful) but I am stuck in a cycle where he lands them on me and I end up covering him/ taking on extra work all the time
I am really fed up with this. I’m not his wife/manager/ doctor/ friend he is a colleague ( we are both at the same senior level)
how do I deal with this?

Say 'im sorry to hear that but you need to speak to Manager if you need to arrange for your work to be redistributed.'

This on repeat.

Say 'im sorry to hear that but you need to speak to Manager if you need to arrange for your work to be redistributed.'

This plus distance yourself. Tell the person to seek professional help - GP, employee assistance group etc in terms of emotional support
