Is anyone here a member of a retail union?

Just interested to hear if anyone is a member of a retail union, and if so, which one and what are the benefits.

I work in retail, and think moving forward I need to protect myself a bit more as my company continues in its race to the bottom. The company I work for seems to be skirting contractual and legal obligations to its staff, and I'd like to be able to consult with someone, have some weight behind me if and when I point out these to my manager, without losing my job.

To my knowledge, none of my colleagues are in a union, and my company has never encouraged anyone to be in one.

What are the benefits of joining, if you work in retail, and what benefits and support would it give me to help navigate the antics going on in my workplace?

Your best bet would be Usdaw. Was a rep briefly. But some shops say they don't recognise it. Also some colleagues think they're favoured or irreplaceable and that they don't need to join.
