Which Job?

Bit of dilemma.

Been working in a school for last year. It's OK.not taxing and I get all the holidays. It's currently 3 days a week
I work 9-4. In New Year they want me full time. My equivalent wage will be about 52k a year. Still have all the school holidays.

But I've been head hunted for a role in my previous company which I would have applied for when I left(but no vacancies at the time). Its FT, annual leave about 35 days a year + bank holidays, involves a lot of travelling.

Wage is 58ka year. The highest wage I would ever earn having worked for 20+ years.

I have kids. In secondary school.
Wwyd????

The lots of travelling would put me off given you have a family! Will someone else be able to look after the kids when you are away?

Both jobs have a lot of annual leave by the sounds of it which is amazing.

How old are your children?

Scarletttulips · 03/12/2023 06:49

I’d keep the school job - traveling means overnight stays which will be free time you could spend with the kids

Yes they are in high school but this is when they need you most.

one is 39 weeks of the year the other is 45 plus travel.

That said - which would you find more interesting and which will go higher salary wise?

FUPAgirl · 03/12/2023 08:32

Job 1, when you say 'equivalent wage', what does that mean? Will you actually earn the 50k or is it pro rata due to holidays off?

You haven't said much about what you actually enjoy or commute times.

YellowRoses100 · 03/12/2023 11:09

No I currently earn the Pro Rata of 52k year
I've done the position full time temporarily for 3 month and I earned the ft wage of 52k and all the school holidays. So I would earn thus amount. Plus all the school holidays and leave by 4.30 most days.

The other job is very sought after and prestigious in my role. Its enshrined in the law and Local Authorities have to have a person employed here. So even with the cost of living crisis then cut back would.not be possible. I would never be up for redundancy. Buy the school job maybe as the other person doing a similar role had been there for 20+ years so I would be the first to go if they cut back.

My kids are year 7&9.

I also have 2 older teens who are independent and get on with stuff.

what have you decided?

YellowRoses100 · 05/12/2023 19:29

I have the interview for the job at my old company on Friday. I'm definitely going to go for it. I'll update. Thanks

I've been offered the job at my old place and the wage is way higher than I initially thought

Congratulations!!
I like travel, I’d go for it for that reason alone…
