Work pattern

Hi, I am returning from maternity leave as a nurse. I currently work 37.5 hrs working 11.5 hr shifts. (3x long days =34.5 hrs and then 1 extra 11.5 hr shift per month to make
up The extra).
I am looking at reducing my hours to 30hrs. I wondered if anyone had a suggestion about how I would do this but still working 11.5 hr shifts or “long days”. I was hoping to do 3 long days one week and 2 long days the next but seems this would make me short of hours.

37.5 hours a week x 52.14 weeks = 1955.25 hours a year
Current pattern
3 x 11.5 hours = 34.5 hours x 52.14 weeks = 1798.83 hours
1955.25 - 1798.83 = 156.42 hours / 11.5 hours = 13.60 days

Proposed pattern
30 hours a week x 52.14 = 1564.2
3 x 11.5 hours + 2 x 11.5 hours = 57.5 hours per fortnight x 26.07 = 1499.025
1564.2 - 1499 = 65.2 hours / 11.5 hours = 5.67 days.

I’m not 100% sure how your employer works out annual hours etc but I think you could propose 3 days in week 1 and 2 days in week 2 making 57.5 hours a fortnight. Plus 1 extra 11.5 hour shift every two months to average a 30 hour week.

Amazing thank you! That makes sense to me and don’t see why I can’t do that. The long days suit our service so would make
sense to keep it that way rather than changing to short days! Thanks again!

I work 28.75hrs, 2 weeks of 2 11.5 shifts & 2 weeks of 3 11.5 shifts. Works well, I really like my 2 day weeks
