How to deal with employee

I have recently been covering for my manager . I have not got any management experience . For the time I have covered , a long standing employee has been giving me and others a hard time . Said employee is the most work shy of the whole team , but it’s not been on my radar before .I was supposed to review some of their work but they complained and said they did not want me to do it . They are lead for a piece of work , which my manager said they were competent in but they told me they could not do it ( so I did it ) . They have complained about their work load and advised they cannot complete their work , which is just not true . We are under pressure at work and all the other staff members work graciously and accept unavoidable changes . I have worked very hard and they have criticised what I have done .

I have made a few minor mistakes when covering and they have rubbed it in my face . They have had a go at a few other staff members too saying they are the only one working hard ( not true ).

What is the best way to deal with this employee ?I can let my manager know , but she is nice as pie to him so I am trying to word it in a way he will ‘get’ it , as she will likely deny .

To add to this, in the past few months she has made personal comments to me about my appearance , housing situation and even about my daughter. I’ve ignored these as I don’t care of her opinion of me .

Any advice welcome

Step away from the management of this person.

You said you don't have management experience so anything you do could cause you to be in a worse position. You need to leave this to your manager to sort.

Hello , thanks for your reply . I’ve stayed pretty neutral . Have listened to them and said they should raise with manager upon their return . Should I tell my manager about what has been going on as this employee will likely deny it .

did someone else do it in the end?

the company was unfair to both you and others for having you replace your manager despite zero experience

who to?

how long will you be covering for?
how long has this colleague been at the company?

Hello , it’s how it is at my work . We have another manager on site for support / other managers etc . So it’s not like the cover is totally on their own
