Does any one have any idea on how to prepare for the assessment centre? DD set her heart in this scheme and is generally quiet /shy and I've no real idea how to help her prepare for this ? Grateful for any tips from anyone who may have been through the process or who has recent experience.

I have just probed DS for a bit more info!!!! He is rather independent so gives the minimum.

Some of those that are a "near miss" for the FS get offered roles in the CS at HEO or EO level. I've worked with a few graduates before brought in this way. It would likely take longer to progress to team leader level buy not that much longer if they do well and push themselves for promotion. Also once you're in it's not that hard to move around.

What’s the starting salary does anyone know? Or does it differ according to which one?
its such a long process!

31K per year. The schemes are different lengths though.

Thank you. Dd didn’t get through the final on line assessment but got a lower grade post which she’s happy with.

DD has final board next week so another step on the way.hopefully she will hear soon the outcome

Ah congratulations! Ds has his in a couple of weeks.

Wintom · 25/03/2024 16:22

Any news, any offers yet? How did the final selection boards go?

DD has not heard from the NHS grad scheme yet (mid April) and only needs to stay injury free for another 6 weeks for the Navy, She is still doing lots of trail runs and half marathons though.

mumonthehill · 25/03/2024 16:25

Ds got declined after the final interview and is very upset about it. He has yet to read the email in full. Very proud that he got that far and I think they did say he may be offered a non fast track opportunity but not sure if he will take it. He is now looking at research posts so he can use his master's.

Wintom · 25/03/2024 17:50

That is such a shame @mumonthehill. As you said, he did really well to get this far.

boredsolicitor · 28/03/2024 13:10

Despite all my doom and gloom about the scoring DD got through and has an offer for the commercial stream. No idea re start date or any detail of where she'll be or what she will do but great to have got to the end of this process . Hope everyone hears soon!

Congratulations to your DD @boredsolicitor . It is great to hear of a success. DD has also heard she got the NHS General Management Grad Scheme. So that is her plan B if the navy does not work out.

boredsolicitor · 28/03/2024 20:57

Fingers crossed @Wintom for the navy - what an exciting prospect!

The number of applicants to the fast stream is a fraction of what it was. Largely due to the starting salary, which has barely increased since 2010. I assessed last year and the quality of applicants, and those who got through, was very mixed. The standard has definitely dropped.

Rummikub · 28/03/2024 21:36

Interesting.

Then Is the pay too low for the calibre of applicants they’re looking for?

There's a lot of hurdles to get through.

Dd failed the last bit got a non fast stream post which she is loving.

Aydel · 30/03/2024 11:04

Yes. You also earn more if you come in as a direct entrant HEO, and can move up just as quickly if you are good.

Rummikub · 30/03/2024 14:16

Good to know. The previous staff moved on quickly I think she’s just enjoying this stage, taking stock and seeing which direction she wants to go.

boredsolicitor · 31/03/2024 17:29

I'll avoid mentioning your helpful feedback to DD, thank you.

I wondered if their requirements were too high.

mumonthehill · 22/05/2024 08:39

Just to update with some positive news, ds has had the offer of a direct appointment . He is yet to know where and that might influence if he takes it but a good outcome.

Rummikub · 22/05/2024 12:44

Congratulations @mumonthehill to your ds.

I think this is what happened to dd. And she’s loving it so far.

Wintom · 22/05/2024 15:45

That is great news @mumonthehill. DD is 2 weeks into officer training with the Navy. So far, so good.
