I need some help deciding on whether to apply for a new job, with Pros and cons to how it would fit around family life. Bit of background, I have two children, eldest 8years and youngest 8 months.
Currently on Mat leave, returning on January 1st.
The job I’m retuning to is an office job and being honest I don’t really enjoy the work I am doing, (I don’t hate it, but I don’t feel it’s my life calling)
When I go back I’ll be working Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. 8.30am - 4.30. The commute is at least 30 mins on a good day. I will also have to drive to my parents house before and after work (ten mins from mine) to drop off and pick up my children)

ive seen a job advertised in my sons local school for office receptionist. The hours would be Monday - Friday, 8.30 - 4.00. Ten minute commute from my house and my parents house. I’d get the holidays off also.

im already dreading leaving my baby when maternity leave ends, but trying to figure out which option works best for us as a family, what helps me be most present as a mum. (Salary would be about the same)

You've got nothing to lose by applying for the job - if you get it you can always turn it down. Going through the process may help you work out whether it's really what you want, I've found that in the past when I've applied for things. There are pros and cons to both jobs so it's not a black and white situation and what is right for one person may not be the same for you.

Are you sure the salary for the term time school office job is the same? Not pro rata?

if there isnt much chance of promotion in the office job, go for term time. It will give you quality time together, rather than just afternoons

Do it! School holidays will be amazing 🤩

With a baby 3 days versus 5 is a significant difference. I’d 100% do 3 days over 5. The school holidays won’t benefit you for ages.
