Freelance bookkeeping - what's the going rate?

I've been doing the accounts for the small charity that I work for, have about 7 years experience, and am now part way through AAT accounting qualification. I've been approached with the opportunity to do some accounting/bookkeeping work for another company however I don't know what I should be charging for my time. Based in South East. Would be grateful for any advice or guidance on what current going rates are.

What would you need to cover your costs (including insurance) and for it to be worth your while? Will they pay that?

Bookkeeping around £30/hr - but that does not include holidays or NI or any other benefits.

Thanks, that's what I'd been thinking. I'm aware I'll need to cover my own NI, tax, holidays, sick days, insurance and professional membership (AAT) etc.

Someone once told me, when in doubt re rates, ask to be paid “Whatever you think fair, reasonable & in line with others”.
whenever I have used it I’ve ended up with a few FAR higher than I’d have dared suggest! Obviously YMMV…
