So, I’ve worked all my life in permanent jobs in private sector, different industries. For the past 3 years I’ve been temping (long contracts and some short) with central government organisations and also private companies, 1 a charity. The private companies were ok but one I was told was toxic to work in so didn’t apply for a permanent role and the other I subsequently found out they also weren’t great to work for (bad management, hierarchy) so didn’t apply there for permanent role either.
I’m starting a central government role where I’ve been told it will be permanent and I should apply and then I was told my local council needs admin staff and I should apply for a permanent role there.
My main dilemma is if I get a permanent government job, I know it’s hard if not impossible to get back into working in private companies from government jobs on a permanent basis. So what should I do? Does anyone have any experience of this?
