Backdated salary increase

i approached my manager requesting a salary increase earlier this year. Manager was supportive but it has taken 6 months for this to be agreed.
The request had to go through a number of higher managers for approval, as one was on long term sick, this has resulted in a 6 month delay.
I have asked for the increase to be backdated to the date I asked for a review but this has been declined. I have also become aware that HR carried out a benchmarking exercise prior to my request which identified that I was being paid less than the industry standard for my role, but no action was taken and I was not informed at the time.
Any HR professionals able to advise if backdating the pay is a reasonable request?

Reasonable- yes. Enforceable- no. Benchmarking has no legal standing. And they had no obligation to tell you either. You can ask. But you can't make them agree.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Much as I thought, but was just ever hopeful that there may have been a legal point I was missing. 😊
