Is split shifts doable

I have been offered a new job which is better pay than my current one, it's 3 days one week and 4 days the next, main issue is it's split shifts and it would be 40mins to an hour commute each way.

Part of me thinks well time of makes up for the shifts and travel time but part of me thinks is this taking up to much time.

Pay is not amazing but it's a step up from where I'm currently at, where I'm currently at there no room for progression really and I'm just stagnant

Is it worth taking the risk, my current job is OK but I feel like if I don't take the chance I will be in the same position in 12 months.

I need some impartial advice!

DH used to do split shifts. It’s fine if you live 10 mins away, so can pop home to put your feet up, not fine to be a 2 hour round trip home and then back to work -it’s just not worth it. He ended up trying to rest in work, but couldn’t fully relax, so it was like 12/14 hour shifts. Exhausting.

No. You'll hate it.

4 hours commuting time per working day sounds horrendous.

Would you go home in between the splits? If it were 5 mins away that would probably be fine, but I imagine that commute round trip twice a day would get old very quickly.

I do split shifts in my job (elderly care).
I live very close to where I work, 3 minutes on a bicycle.

I still do not like split shifts. It feels like working the whole day.

Unless you can get home within 10-15 minutes I really don’t think it is worth it ! My daughter did this, before she was a student and it worked because I was available to be the driver !!

I knew someone that did this years ago and if I remember correctly she was kept on in the hours between quite a lot due to short staff so would work full long days.

definitely not worth it….

It's a no from me. Did them for home care. Feels like you're never away from work
