Is there a union to join for free for civil services?
I would like to join a union and most of them are charging a monthly fees. Can anyone suggest which would be the most cheapest union available to join for civil services?

If you're the same poster who's on suspension currently, you're likely to have a waiting period before you can get support, and many unions don't support existing employment problems.

its like an insurance policy, if your house gets burgled you can't buy an insurance policy after-the-fact to cover that loss.

Don’t
think it is the same poster.

That may be the case, @FFSWhatToDoNow . it just amazes me how people think they don't have to pay Union subs until the sh*t hits the fan then suddenly it's "quick, I've got to join a Union"

PCS used to do the first few months free for staff on fixed term contracts. I don’t know if they still do as the industrial action will have depleted funds but they definitely did when I joined a few years back.

PCS maximum subscription for highest earners is £15 per month. Some other unions have bands at £30 or £40 per month so that's a total bargain. It's really cheap on a department-head sort of salary. Lower earners can join for as little as £3.32 per month. Union dues should be regarded as a voluntary tax for socialist principles. Given that the normal tax on op's salary must be several hundred per month it's really not a large additional deduction.
