Colleague racially abused

We work in a new start up. Two months in I have found out my colleague (HR) is referred to as a ni**er by my co director.
She is very upset. I am fuming. This toxic man tried oust me last month, I fought back. He can charm our overseas HQ into believing he has done nothing wrong. He's ex military and he told people he's a trained killer.
He whispered in my colleague's ear he knows where she lives. She lives alone She is scared of him and is requesting wfh until we move offices at the end of the month. We currently share an office.
I need some advice on what to do. Call the police?

It is racial abuse and possible threats so yes to police and also to overseas HQ.

Dontjudgeme101 · 04/11/2023 08:45

Horrible little man!

CatOnTheCludgy · 04/11/2023 09:03

Blimey that is shocking.
Police id say. And if he's not going anywhere then possibly move job.

Matchinglipsandfingertips · 04/11/2023 16:10

I have reported it online to the police.
I don't think head office will believe it.

They will have to if he is investigated and hopefully prosecuted. He sounds like an utter piece of shit bullying prick.

Bouledeneige · 04/11/2023 20:53

This is disgusting. I'm glad you've reported to police. It should be raised formally as a grievance by both you and your colleague. Frankly if you think Head Office wouldn't listen or care I'd be looking for somewhere else to work.

Matchinglipsandfingertips · 05/11/2023 09:48

My colleague is going to wfh until we move offices. I am going in but I will be calling the police if I feel threatened. This is harassment at the very least but I want this man charged for the sake of all women.

Well I thought I would update for those kind people who replied.
Toxic colleague got promoted and became my boss.
Abused colleagues both got promoted after withdrawing their complaints. I got sacked!

BliainNua · 03/01/2024 11:39

Sounds like you're best off out of there op!

Were you sacked for reporting the abuse?

Bouledeneige · 03/01/2024 11:40

Wow OP that's awful. Does your employer have a whistleblowing policy? Sounds like you've been scapegoated for supporting your colleague and doing the right thing. My huge sympathies that really is beyond disgusting. Especially promoting the perp.

I hope you have a lot if support around you.

what a toxic workplace. Good for you no need to go in but they won't stop their behaviour! What did the police do or they can't do anything after complaints were withdrawn?

2jacqi · 03/01/2024 11:54

@Matchinglipsandfingertips I think everyone should be looking for alternative employment!!! the HQ should be taking this very seriously!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 03/01/2024 11:57

I’d be tempted to speak to a solicitor.

I’m not sure how much in terms of rights you’ve got if you’ve only been there 2 months but that’s an appalling way to be treated. I can see why your colleagues withdrew their complaints but the racial and threatening abuse/words shouldn’t be tolerated in a workplace.

AboutYouTalk · 03/01/2024 12:16

He should still be investigated, what an actual arsehole 😡 the HR lady should sue, why on Earth would she want to stay in such a racist environment with her tormentor threatening her?

You are better off out of it.

TinkerTiger · 03/01/2024 12:18

I'm in shock.

Matchinglipsandfingertips · 03/01/2024 12:29

Ah, thank you all.
I got sacked for taking two days sick leave due to my disability. I had disclosed it on my first day of employment and that I needed reasonable adjustments such as a suitable chair and some flexibility on wfh. A desk top computer too. None were actioned.
The toxic colleague rang me on day one and asked if he had put me off. I think he thought I would resign over the racist behaviour (I won't tolerate it) but this time I referred it.
I am seeking legal advice for the disability discrimination and wrongful dismissal. The latter was done to avoid paying my notice.
The company overseas is currently being investigated. They actually don't answer emails.
I find it bizzare a women who is racially abused accepts a promotion from someone she was frightened to work with a month ago. Perhaps I have been had and a mug to help someone who was crying on my shoulder?
The stress put me in hospital last week as I have fibromialga (recently diagnosed). The haven't paid my notice or holiday. I doubt if I'll get it without legal action.
