I’m a SAHM at the moment but I do often think about what I’ll do when I’m ready to return to work.
In roughly 10 years of work, I would say I’ve had a series of OK jobs but I don’t think I am successful and I wouldn’t say I have a career. I’ve progressed slightly from “assistant” to “manager” but I did not have any line reports. I felt very stuck with no clear way to move up the ladder., I just moved from one employer to another and a slightly ‘better’ job each time. I’ve had a couple of very small internal promotions in that time but it’s really more like token recognition and a
£1000 pay rise rather than a significant step up
I have applied for manager jobs with line management responsibilities but have not yet been successful. I’ve thought about studying on the side, something like project management, but I’m Put off because it feels like such a gamble to invest so much time, effort and money when it may not really improve my job prospects. I have a degree but my work experience is not in a related area so further study at masters level seems a bit irrelevant. Expensive too and I don’t have savings.
can anyone relate or offer any kind of advice?
