Docked wages because of managers mistake

So I received a docket and won’t be paid for half a shift because a manger sent me home because he received a call saying the was an emergency, my phone battery was dead so I rush home, when I get home there was no emergency and no one had called my work place the manager must have misheard the name the caller asked for but is not admitting it.
I called work after getting home but the manager was adamant the call was from my family, when I said I’d go back he said the rest of my shift was covered.
Can I be docked my wages even though this wasn’t my fault but the managers mistake.

That doesn't seem fair - after all if it had been an emergency then they should pay you compassionate leave. It wasn't your fault your manager made a mistake.

Put the whole thing in writing, and send it to HR or whoever does payroll.

There is no law that says someone has to be paid for compassionate leave / a family emergency. There might be, depending on circumstances, a right to unpaid time off. So the issue is not a right to payment - there is no such right.

OP you need to speak to your manager again, and if they don't agree then you will have to use the grievance procedure. That would usually mean a written complaint to your manager, or to their manager - you need to check what you policy says.

Do you have a HR department to contact?

So....who in the business went home at normal time to find there'd been an emergency they weren't told of?
