Anyone else in a boring slow paced job?

I swear it's soul destroying. I have no work to do. I've emailed everyone on my team to say I've got capacity - nothing.

Told my manager and he says "why don't you do some process mapping" again and again..

I told my MD who said he'll find something for me to do! He never did. I've reminded him twice.

I work part time and I'm paid well. But I am bored to actual tears. I WFH which is another issue as they promised me I'd have a desk in the office - I don't so I'm WFH.

Sigh..looking for work elsewhere but there's nothing here. Even the local NHS admin roles are WFH only.

I love being busy. I love working. I love learning. I love people and making friendships at work. I miss it all 😔

Anyone else ever had a job like this?

(Project management in engineering. I work mainly with the government)

Mine can be like this but not all the time. But I kind of like it, I WFH and do all my housework, DIY etc.

I think they think projects will pick up fast! But I'm not convinced....

I wonder if I feel guilty for the downtime? In my last role they'd track us throughout the day and query any random 5 min gaps

(I remember once explaining I had stomach trouble and needed a few loo breaks because I was called in and asked why i was inactive a few times in one day. Humiliation station)

My old job was similiar
I got out to do what I had always wanted to do and a year on still not a single regret!

Finteq · 18/10/2023 13:49

I wish mine was like that.

I don't have a minute to think.

Don't talk yourself out of a job. Sit back, relax and enjoy the peace, I'm sure it will pick up again

Thank you! Apparently I'm being paid for my technical knowledge not for my output. My colleague has just tried to reassure me 😂

I just feel so flipping awkward about it!

I have never felt so flat in my life! How long have you worked in the role??

Since April it's made worse by the fact that I loved my previous role but had to move as the salary was terrible.

Even though the money helps it still feels like a mistake!

Make a list of small, easy to complete tasks you can do for yourself at your desk to fill time in a productive way.

Start the day by checking what work has come in. Do it as well as you can, then tick off your personal projects - online courses, christmas shopping, holiday planning, read a great book, pay your bills etc. A lot of people do their own stuff on quiet days at the office, and you can too. Be thankful they are funding you to do this!

Liguinelover · 18/10/2023 14:09

@Molly2008 similar time frame to me! My probation is up soon (6 months) - what if they say I haven't done enough?.

That would be rather embarrassing

Then push back and say I have asked for more work, direction but it hasn't been forthcoming.

I had my review apparently I'm doing great?! No idea how I hardly do anything

Thank you. I did some Christmas list making and then found some free CPD to do 😊
