Civil service jobs application feedback

Hi all, hope to find some civil service peeps here.

Who has access to the interview notes and feedback?

I didn’t do too well in my interview and am
now worried about the impact of that on other civil service jobs I may apply for in the future.

Thanks 🙏

No one else, they'll be deleted after 6 months. Don't be hard on yourself, one bad interview won't put a black mark against you!

No one will see it and it won’t impact you in the slightest.

Not even in the same Gov department, let alone another part of the civil service.

Every interview is a clean slate so don't worry- no-one else will see notes.

I guess from your text that you have done this, but do make sure you ask for feedback as it's good way to help improve for the next one.

The interviews are very much a system to beat- in the area I am it's common for internal people to just reapply and reapply until they finally nail it and get their promotion/new job. People also get coaching and support to get them through the process if they are struggling too- it's just a totally different system of recruitment compared with anywhere else I've worked. Before I joined I had no idea!!

No one. Actual notes would only be seen by panel and HR and shouldn’t be available to others. To be fair, even if you applied for a job with the same hiring managers they would take you on your performance with the new application and new interview - past performance wouldn’t be brought into it! And wouldn’t be an issue for any other job in the CS! Write off that interview experience (everyone has bad days!) and keep applying!

Agree, I wouldn’t expect it to be looked at for future interviews so I wouldn't worry. Are you able to ask for feedback on your interview? I used to work for the civil service and I remember my answers needed to be in the STAR format. If you don’t answer them in that specific way, it seems to go against you massively.

Thanks all! That’s reassuring to hear. Feel a lot better x

I have AO interview with Civil service next week. I know I be asked questions on the 4 Competencies stated in the advert. They said before the interview that they will sent me the 4 Questions that will be asked? Anyone know if this is a new thing as never heard of this been done before.

sekift · 18/10/2023 10:48

@Glen155 I've only heard of that when the person being interviewed requires adjustments, I've heard of it happening where those with neurodiversity need support.
