Burnout

I have a very busy and stressful job, supporting a lot of new starts and students whilst also managing my own caseload plus taking on certain managerial tasks as per my role.

I'm just back from annual leave and yesterday I felt close to burn out, I had a feeling of 'I just can't do this anymore'. The pressure and the sleepless nights of worry surely just can't be worth it. The sheer weight of the responsibility is unbelievable and I don't think my mental health will sustain it much longer.

I work in healthcare and I've looked at other roles but I've never done anything else. Retraining isn't an option currently.

Anybody else left healthcare for a completely different role with similar salary and less stress?🤞🏼

I could have written this and came to find similar advice!
I am desperate to get off wards - I can't stand the blame culture, nights, weekends, short staffed shifts etc.
My issue is that I feel trapped financially as I am senior - any job that I get will be a pay cut. However, I am thinking a move to academia (lecturing) may be for me! I know that it won't be stress free, but I think the refular shift pattern will greatly improve my mental health.

I hate it too @LumpySpaceCow it's becoming unbearable. I'm also in a senior post and have considered lecturing in a college but I don't have a teaching qualification.

It's just too much stress and it's following me home and impacting my personal life no end.

@catoutthebag the nurses I know who have gone into lecturing don't have any teaching qualifications - they have learnt on the job and the universities have even funded their Masters. Our local universities often have open days - maybe yours will too? There are also simulation or reseach roles.
Sorry I can't offer any useful advice but know that you're not alone!! I've started my own thread for similar advice- I'll let you know if I get any!
