Working part time - holidays?

How do you calculate holidays when you work part time with regards to bank holidays?

I have been offered a 4 day week and was advised ‘oh don’t work Mondays then you only miss a one bank holiday’. I don’t get it… surely if you don’t work Mondays then you miss them anyway?

It helped me to think of a/l in terms of hours rather than days when I was part time.

so if you work four 8hr days and one of those days is a BH you’d want to be paid for 8hrs. But only 4/5 of that will be covered specifically by your BH entitlement so you have to use hours from the rest of your A/L to make it up.

So a full time person gets 30 days leave plus bank holidays. If you work 4 days you are entitled to 27.2 days so call it 27. Next year there are 5 bank holidays on a Monday and 3 on other days so from your 27 days you need to use 3 days to book off the bank holidays on your working days leaving you with 24 days to play with. If you worked Mondays you would need to use 5 days of your leave to book bank holidays leaving you with only 22 to play with.

Basically, you get the same number of holiday days regardless of if you work Mondays or not. If you work Mondays you have to use several of those holiday days for BH Mondays. You get no choice.

But if you don't work Mondays, you get all the BH Mondays off anyway as a non working day, and then you can choose to use the holidays that would have been used on BH Mondays for any day you want.

So I get the 4/5 of the Mondays ‘back’ if they are holidays anyway? (She asks hopefully).
