Working full-time advice

I've accepted a new full-time job which I really wanted. All good, but I haven't worked full-time for over 10 years, since I had DC and I'm worried how I'll cope. But we need the extra money. I have the DC and some caring responsibilities for my DM. Life is busy enough now while I'm part-time and I don't want to miss out on time with my DC. There is some working from home (50%) in the new job and a very small amount of UK travel. I'm excited but nervous. How can I make the transition as smooth as possible? What things can I put in place, big and small, to make this work?

I'll be able to pick them up on the days I wfh, which is really important for me, but then I'll need to get back to work for a while longer.

Hi OP how did you get on. I found your thread because I am in a similar situation.

It was too much for me, I'm afraid to say. I started off enjoying it, but then my other caring responsibilities became unexpectedly much more demanding. After a lot of soul searching, I dropped down to 4 days a week (which I was fortunate work could accommodate). This is right for me. I do miss the extra money, but my health was starting to suffer. If it wasn't for those other non work things, it would have been OK. I'd been working on getting the DC more independent etc.

I would like to go back to full time eventually. Just don't under estimate how long it will take to adjust and put yourself, your health and your needs first!

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I suspect it will be the same for me. I’m glad you were able to reduce your hours.
